10 48 hour film project tips to remember ( #10 takes the cake by far )

The 48 Hour Film Project is a film

competition where you write, film , edit, and turn in an 8 min short in just 48 hours. This can get crazy and demands can be high, but here are some pointer to keep things in check.!

1. Make yourself a plan

It is impossible to plan ahead for everything but if you make a plan and schedule your time you’ll be in better shape when the time comes.

2. Make sure you put together a reliable team

In most cases no one is getting paid for this so reliable teammates are difficult to come by. Making sure they are present is not the only thing, you need to make sure you populate your team with professionals.

3. Equipment Checks

make sure you check and double check all your gear during the time the script is being written so when you get on set there are no surprises. This includes but is not limited to batteries, sd cards, lenses, vehicles and so on.

4. Locations

Locations are important because not enough and your film will be dull , and too many and it might be difficult to finish given the time constraints. Also its not always about quantity, the quality of your locations is important too .

5. Actors

Your actors can make or break your film. You can have an awesome story, great sound design, amazing locations, and the best cinematography, but if your actors cant drive the film then all of that can go by the way side..!

6.Paper Work

Someone on your team needs to be designated to keep all the paper work in order. I cant tell you how many times we gotten to turn in time and we are struggling to get all the paper work done.

7. Credits

Credits goes back to paper work. Usually the framework for the credits comes from the paper work. Someone needs to do these things early so that the credits are just ready to add to the end of the film when the editor is ready for them.

8. Music

We are lucky to have 2 amazing music producers on our team. They work with me to figure out the tone and feeling of the piece and compose the underlying structure for the film. The way this is done is also a make or breaker.

9. Feed Your Crew.!!!

Your crew donated their time to come help you out.. make sure you take care of them and provide breakfast, lunch , and dinner for your crew..!

10. SLEEP

Probably the most important thing of all.. if you don’t get rest you will find yourself becoming delirious. Nothing good can come from a tired editor either. If you don’t rest you will end up making more mistakes than good edits.

These are a few good points to think about when undertaking a 48 hour film project..! If you follow them you'll get a product like these..!!
